Red Cross, Salvation Army Cancel Events at Mar-a-Lago

Nonprofit groups, including the Red Cross and the Salvation Army are cancelling events at Mar-a-Lago.

From the New York Times:

With its ornate 20,000-square-foot ballroom and manicured lawns, President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., is often the site of elaborate fund-raisers, drawing big charities — and big dollars.

But several organizations are having a change of heart since Mr. Trump blamed “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, Va., after a white nationalist rally and an attack by a driver that left a woman dead. There were “very fine people on both sides,” Mr. Trump said.

Over the weekend, the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society became the latest nonprofit groups to cancel galas at Mar-a-Lago.

“Given the current environment surrounding Mar-a-Lago, we have made the decision to move our annual dinner dance,” the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach said in a post on Saturday on its Facebook page.

... The Washington Post reported that the American Cancer Society, the Cleveland Clinic and the American Friends of Magen David Adom all announced they would not be holding fund-raisers at the oceanside resort.

On Friday, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Susan G. Komen also canceled events at Mar-a-Lago.

Mar-a-Lago “has increasingly become a source of controversy and pain for many of our volunteers, employees and supporters,” the Red Cross said in a statement announcing that the 2018 International Red Cross Ball had been canceled.

It was a break in tradition for the Red Cross, which has held the ball at Mar-a-Lago every year since 2005, with the exception of 2013 and 2014.

“The Red Cross provides assistance without discrimination to all people in need, regardless of nationality, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or political opinions, and we must be clear and unequivocal in our defense of that principle,” the statement said.

The Red Cross believes the president of the United States is a racist.

Yikes. I don't think it's wise for these groups to buy into the mass hysteria being propagated by the Leftists.

It's sure to hurt their fundraising. But if we're going to go there, we can go there.
